0:00 Introduction: The MTHFR gene explained

5:23 How to support detoxification
7:42 Learn more about the MTHFR enzyme!

Today we're going to talk about a common problem that affects your ability to detoxify chemicals and other toxins.

This problem involves the MTHFR gene, known as the detox gene. It's also involved in creating neurotransmitters and in hormonal regulation.

If you have a mutation or alternation with the MTHFR gene, you could lose 25% to 80% of the gene's function.

A loss of function of the MTHFR gene could lead to potential complications, including:
• Free radical damage
• Oxidation
• Inflammation
• Fibrosis
• Cirrhosis
• Insulin resistance
• Fatty liver
• Poor digestion
• Poor sleep
• Gallstones
• High cholesterol
• Backup of bile

Many chemicals in the environment are considered endocrine disrupters and estrogen disrupters, which may lead to various health concerns.

If you have a genetic mutation of the MTHFR gene, a typical detox won't help you very much. You have to have a very clean lifestyle. With this mutation, your liver could have a difficult time just getting rid of things like alcohol or caffeine.

But there are things you can do to help this gene work correctly. First off, you should avoid synthetic, enriched, and fortified foods and supplements.

The best things to support detoxification if you have a mutation of the MTHFR gene:
1. Methylfolate
2. Methylcobalamin
3. Choline
4. Natural B vitamin complex (nutritional yeast)
5. Magnesium (leafy greens)
6. Cruciferous vegetables
