Hi Friends! How many calories per day is the average human supposed to consume? There is no way to tell you how much he or she needs! Generally someone, who caries more muscle mass, will have a higher metabolism and will need more calories, than the person the same age and the same height, who does the same amount of exercise, but with less muscle mass. Unless his body was much more efficient compared to the person, who needs less calories. The scale we use at Tanglewood shows your body composition results using the latest advanced bio-electrical impedance analysis (BIA) technology. In addition to telling us how much muscle mass, body fat and water you have in your body, it also estimates based on statistical information how many calories you should need to consume to maintain your current weight. It's based on your age, your height, your weight and your body composition. Well this machine says, that I should eat 2997 calories per day. That is 2.5 to 3 times as much as I actually eat on the average day. Why is it so different? That's because my body is much more efficient. Your body can become much more efficient too! So, there is really no way to say how many calories per pound an efficient body requires. You see, the thing is, our bodies are changing, conditions are changing. Theoretically, hopefully we are becoming more efficient. And that means, what works today, may not work a week or a month or a year from now.
