Hi Friends! Blue zones are regions of the world thought to have a higher than usual number of people who live much longer than average, identified by Gianni Pes, Michel Poulain and Dan Buettner. Five "Blue zones" have been posited: Okinawa (Japan); Sardinia (Italy); Nicoya (Costa Rica); Icaria (Greece); and Loma Linda (California, USA). The diet is mostly plant-based. The daily food intake of people living in Blue Zones is about 95% vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes. They do not eat much meat, dairy, sugary foods or drinks, and processed food. Food is not the only reason that people in Blue Zones live long, healthy lives. They also get a lot of physical activity, have low levels of stress, are connected socially, and have a strong sense of purpose in life. Unfortunately, the younger generations in blue zones today are not gonna live as long as their grandparents did. Their diet is becoming more and more processed. Today junk food has become readily available and that's what a lot of people eat. And so, unfortunately I can almost guarantee you, that this part of Costa Rica (the blue zone) won't be a blue zone in 20 or 30 years. It's getting worse and worse. Hopefully, I'd like to believe that we might have a little bit of impact at least on the immediate area. And we've seen that in the past years! Enjoy the video and leave your comments below!
