Think about it, how often did you take your cell phone to the bathroom? Every day? Several times a day?
It may be fun to pass the time scrolling Instagram or checking email while you poop, but using your smartphone on the toilet has some really messy consequences for your health.
Prolonged sitting, which can happen when you're very engrossed in your smartphone, can increase your risk for hemorrhoids.
There's no concrete research yet (although a clinical trial is in the works), but experts are concerned nonetheless.
You should spend between 1 and 15 minutes pooping - anything longer may indicate constipation.
Avoid sitting and straining for long periods of time. If you get distracted, set a timer so you know when to get up and move on when nothing has moved, so to speak.
